A Board of Directors consisting of eleven elected members governs the organization. NONPF Bylaws restricts individuals to serving no more than 2 terms consecutively in the same position and no more than six consecutive years on the Board.

Shirlee Drayton-Brooks PhD, CRNP, FNP, BC, FAANP
President
Dr. Drayton-Brooks is currently a Professor of Nursing and Director of both the Family Nurse Practitioner Program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Widener University, School of Nursing. Dr. Drayton-Brooks has served a 2-term past National Secretary of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF). Further, service to NONPF included early task force work to identify cultural competencies, Archives Committee (member), and contribution to Advanced nursing practice building curriculum for quality nurse practitioner education. Most recently, Dr. Drayton-Brooks was appointed in March 2007 by Secretary Leavitt to the National Advisory Council on Nursing Education and Practice (NACNEP) for a 4-year term. The Council advises the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services and the US Congress on policy issues related to Title VIII programs administered by the HRSA Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing, including nurse workforce supply, education, and practice improvement.

Debra J. Barksdale, PhD, FNP-BC, ANP-BC, CNE, FAANP

Dr. Debra Barksdale is Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She is Chair of the Master's Executive Committee, which is responsible for curriculum development, admissions policy, academic standards, and academic progression across all of the Master's programs in the School of Nursing. She also has been actively involved in the leadership of developing a DNP program at UNC. From 2003-2006, Dr. Barksdale was coordinator of the Family NP Program. She has over 21 years experience as a nurse practitioner. She also maintains an active research program focusing on stress and cardiovascular disease mechanisms. She served previously on the NONPF Board of Directors, including as Chair of the previous Research Committee. She continues to lead NONPF's data collection initiatives.

Julie Marfell, ND/DNP, FNP-BC

Dr. Marfell has been Chair of Family Nursing for the past 11 years at the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing. She is also a member of the Administrative Team at Frontier and provides leadership and vision for strategic planning and decision making. She was a leader in the implementation of the Faculty Practice Program at Frontier and also served as Executive Director for Frontier Nursing Healthcare overseeing operations for four rural health clinices.

M. Katherine Crabtree, DNSc, FAAN, ANP-BC

Dr. Kathy Crabtree is a Professor of Nursing at the Oregon Health & Sciences University where she has helped to develop the DNP program. As DNP faculty, she teaches NPs and doctoral students and continues practice as an Adult NP in Oregon. As a leader in NP education, Dr. Crabtree developed and directed federal training grants for NP education in multiple specialties. She co-directed the HRSA-funded project conducted by NONPF and AACN to develop validated, national competencies for 5 NP specialties in primary care. She served on the NONPF Board of Directors for 2 terms as Chair of the Educational Standards and Guidelines Committee. She most recently chaired the NONPF Practice Doctorate Committee.

Mary Burman, PhD, RN, FNP, BC

Dr. Burman has served on the faculty of the University of Wyoming for 14 years. She is currently Professor, School of Nursing, and Associate Dean, Academic Affairs for the College of Health Sciences. Before assuming this position she directed the Family Nurse Practitioner program. She continues to teach in the NP program. Her area of research is on models of nurse practitioner practice and outcomes of care. In addition, Dr. Burman maintains a part-time practice with low-income uninsured persons, especially those experiencing chronic illness. She has chaired the NONPF International SIG for several years.

Lynne Dunphy, PhD, FNP, BC

Dr. Lynne Dunphy is the Routhier Chair of Practice and Professor and the Center Coordinator of Rhode Island Center for Nursing Excellence at the University of Rhode Island. She is charged with nursing workforce issues and is involved in legislative issues at the state level. She previously oversaw a large graduate nursing program at Florida Atlantic University from 2000 to 2006 as Assistant Dean. She is co-author of a certification review book for Adult and Family NPs, and she has finished her third edition of Primary Care: The Art and Science of Advanced Practice Nursing. Dr. Dunphy is currently a RWJ Executive Nurse Fellow.

Sheila Melander, RN, DSN, ACNP, FAANP, FCCM

Dr. Sheila Melander is Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis where she teaches in the DNP Program, specifically focused on Adult Acute Care NP preparation. She has served as the Conference Chairperson in NONPF for the annual meeting for the past 3 years, and she was formerly the chair of the Acute Care Special Interest Group. Dr. Melander was involved in the implementation of one of the early Acute Care NP programs and has been involved in teaching in Acute Care NP programs for over 14 years. She is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and also of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Marva Mizell Price, DrPH, RN, FAANP, FAAN

Dr. Marva Mizell Price spent five years as the director of the FNP speciality at Duke University. She continues to teach in the FNP program and is Director of Admission for the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. She has 35 years experience as a certified FNP, maintaining part-time clinical practice in a family planning clinic. Dr. Price has served more than a decade as a gubernatorial appointee to the State Public Health Commission; collaborating to formulate rules and regulations for public health legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. She serves on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure National African American Advisory Council. Dr. Price served on the NONPF Clinical Doctorate Task Force in 2005-2006 and chaired the NONPF subcommittee on Faculty Qualifications, Faculty Development, and Student Admissions Criteria.

Lenore Resick, PhD, APRN, BC, NP-C

Dr. Lenore Resick has been named the Noble J. Dick Endowed Chair in Community Outreach. She is currently the Director of the Nurse-Managed Wellness Center and Coordinator FNP Clinical Specialty in the MSN program at the Duquesne University School of Nursing. In addition, she has served as Director of Duquesne’s Nurse-Managed Wellness Center since 1996. She previously served as Chair of the NONPF Distance Learning SIG (2002-3) and during this time led the SIG in identifying guidelines for distance learning and served as editor of the document Guidelines for Distance Learning in Nurse Practitioner Education published by NONPF in 2002. Dr. Resick also participates in NONPF’s activities focused on developing APN educational guidelines relative to mass casualty incidents and is Duquesne’s representative to the International Nursing Coalition for Mass Casualty Education.

Jacqueline Rhoads PhD, ACNP-BC, ANP-C, PMHNP, FAANP

Dr. Jackie Rhoads is a professor and Graduate Program Director at the University Of Texas Medical Branch School Of Nursing in Galveston Texas. She has education preparation and certification as an Acute Care, Family, Gerontological, and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She maintains clinical competence through direct patient care in acute- and primary-care settings. Her experience includes numerous leadership positions in the in the US Army and major positions in schools of nursing and colleges of nursing in both private and public universities In June 2007, Dr. Rhoads was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Rhoads has been a member of NONPF for 15 years. During that time, she has served on the Nominating Committee and Member Resources Committee.

Anne Thomas, PhD, APRN, BC, ANP, GNP

Dr. Thomas has been actively involved in NONPF over many years. Her activities have included: An abstract reviewer for the annual conferences, member of the Education Committee’s Task Force on FNP Standards, a member of the Educational Resources Committee, and a current member of the Curriculum Leadership Committee. She also currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Program Director SIG. Dr. Thomas has also been actively involved throughout her professional career in advancing quality education via curricular development, redesign, implementation and evaluation of nurse practitioner programs while creating and obtaining necessary financial and human resources for colleagues and students. This has been accomplished through academic appointments as well as numerous requests for curriculum consultations to nurse practitioner programs.
